As of yesterday, twitter seems to have introduced a new cap on how many followers can be added. The cap seems to be 1000 a day. This is seen as a measure to curb rampant twitspam. There is also speculations as to if this is a temporary measure or a permanent one.

For the unenlightened ones out there, twitspam is when someone uses automated tools to auto follow people and then normal people respond by following them back. This then enables the spammers to spam the followers. Twitters 2000 followers cap notwithstanding, twitter spam has seen enormous rise in the past 3 months.

Hopefully this measure will curb twitter spam.
